Does North Carolina Require Prelicensing Education for Insurance Exams?
No. As of October 1, 2025, North Carolina has removed the prelicensing education requirement for insurance exams. However, candidates are still encouraged to use exam prep resources to ensure success. This change means that the following requirements are being removed:
Learners may continue studying in their course: there are no changes to the course content, and any information presented may be testable on the state exam. You will need to pass a chapter quiz for each chapter prior to moving to the next. While the Certificate Exam is still available in your course, you are not required to take it.
If you are planning to take your state exam BEFORE October 1, 2025, you are required to complete your prelicensing education as outlined in the “Certificate Requirements” tab in your course.
