Required Hours
Producers in Illinois are required to take 24 hours of CE, including 3 hours in Ethics, every 2-year license term. The Ethics course must be fulfilled in an approved classroom or webinar setting. Courses cannot be taken for credit more than once in a 2-year license term. Up to 12 hours of excess CE may be carried over to the next license term.
NOTE: ExamFX does NOT offer any Ethics CE courses for Illinois.
IMPORTANT: Producers must be CE compliant at least ten (10) business days before their renewal date.
Category Restrictions
Students may take an approved course in any line of authority to obtain their CE credits, but it is recommended that they take courses pertaining to their license type. Three (3) hours of Ethics must be fulfilled in a classroom or webinar setting. ExamFX does NOT offer the classroom or webinar Ethics course. Excess Ethics hours can be carried over but will only be general credits and will not satisfy the next Ethics requirement. Crop producers can satisfy their CE requirement with a course approved for property and casualty.
Special Training
• ANNUITY BEST INTEREST TRAINING – Illinois licensed producers must complete a state approved 4-hour Annuity Suitability Best Interest course before selling, soliciting or negotiating annuity products. The ExamFX Annuity Suitability Best Interest Standard course satisfies this requirement.
• FLOOD INSURANCE TRAINING – Illinois licensed producers who sell flood insurance are required to take a 3-hour one-time course approved for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Course Presentation
• CERTIFICATE EXAM – Licensees are required to pass the certificate exam with a 70% or better.
• STUDY BY TOPIC QUIZZES – ExamFX recommends that all Study by Topic Quizzes are passed with a 70% or better.
• ATTESTATION – The attestation must be completed following the certificate exam.
Certificates of Completion
Your certificate of completion will be processed within two (2) business days and can be downloaded/printed from the "View Certificate(s)" link in the course launch portal. Completions are normally reported to the state within two (2) business days of the certificate having been issued. The state charges a $1.00 per credit hour fee in order to report completions. This fee is charged prior to accessing the certificate exam.
Non-Resident Producers
A non-resident producer's completion of their home state's CE requirements satisfies this state's CE requirements if the non-resident producer's home state recognizes the completion of its CE requirements imposed upon producers from this state on the same basis.
CE Exemptions
The following are exempt from Illinois CE requirements:
• Individuals holding a temporary license
• Individuals holding the following limited licenses: limited travel health, baggage, or trip cancellation sold in connection with transportation by a common carrier; industrial life; industrial health; and insurance issued by a local mutual district, county, or township insurance company
• Non-resident producers who meet their resident states' CE requirements (except for LTC requirements)
License Renewal
Producers who have satisfied the renewal requirements can file a renewal application at NIPR and follow the online renewal instructions.
