New Jersey Insurance Continuing Education Courses and Requirements

📅 Updated June 11, 2025

🟠 ExamFX Provider #30151

Courses Available

New Jersey requires producer licensing candidates to take and complete a state-approved prelicensing course. You will also need to apply for your license with the state insensing process.

Required Hours

New Jersey licensed producers are required to take 24 hours of CE, including 3 hours of Ethics, every 2-year license term. One credit hour of professional Ethics can be substituted with one credit hour related to insurance fraud.

The license term for both producers and adjusters ends at the end of the birth month every other year. Producers cannot take a course more than once within a 2-year license term.

Resident producers who complete in excess of 24 hours during one licensing term can carry over up to 12 credits to the next renewal term. Credit hours can only be carried over once and Ethics hours may not be carried over.

NOTE: Be sure to complete all of your CE credit hours BEFORE submitting your license renewal application.

Category Restrictions

Producers may take an approved course in any line of authority to obtain their CE credits, but it is recommended that they take courses pertaining to their license type. Public Adjusters are required to take courses specifically approved for their line of authority.

Special Training

• LONG-TERM CARE PARTNERSHIP TRAINING – Before a producer can sell or solicit Long-Term Care Insurance they must complete a state approved course in 8 hours of initial Long-Term Care training. Producers must then complete a 4-hour ongoing training requirement every 2- year license term following the initial completion date of the 8-hour training.

• ANNUITY SUITABILITY TRAINING – New Jersey licensed producers must complete a one-time state approved 4-hour Annuity Best Interest course before selling or soliciting any annuity products.

• FLOOD INSURANCE TRAINING – New Jersey licensed producers who sell National Flood Insurance Policies are required to take a one-time 3-hour course on Flood Insurance.

Course Presentation

• CERTIFICATE EXAM – No certificate exam is required to generate a certificate.

• STUDY BY TOPIC QUIZZES – ExamFX requires that all Study by Topic quizzes be passed with at least a score of 70%.

• POST-COURSE ATTESTATION – The licensee is required to complete the post-course attestation at the end of the course.

Certificates of Completion

Your certificate of completion will be processed within two (2) business days and can be downloaded/printed from the "View Certificate(s)" link in the course launch portal.  Completions are normally reported to the state within two (2) business days of the certificate having been issued.

Non-Resident Producers

Non-residents who have completed their CE requirement in their home state will be deemed compliant for New Jersey’s continuing education requirement. If a non-resident has not taken a NAIC training course in another state, then they must comply with New Jersey’s LTC training requirement. Non-resident adjusters who have satisfied their home state CE requirements will be deemed compliant for New Jersey’s CE requirement.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from New Jersey CE requirements:

• Non-resident producers in good standing with their home state
• Non-resident producers who have completed the NAIC training requirement in another state

License Renewal

Licenses for both resident and non-resident producers can be renewed online at SIRCON.
