Required Hours

Producers in Rhode Island must take 24 hours of continuing education, 3 of those hours being in Ethics, every 2-year license term. The date for license renewals will fall on the last day of the producer’s birth month, every 2 years. A maximum of 12 excess credits can be carried forward into the next license term; excess Ethics credits will be carried forward as general credit. Courses may not be repeated within a 2-year license term.

NOTE: Be sure to complete all of your CE credit hours BEFORE submitting your license renewal application.

Category Restrictions

Producers must complete a minimum of 5 hours in each line of authority they are licensed in.

Special Training

β€’ LONG-TERM CARE TRAINING – Before a producer can sell or solicit Lon-erm Care Insurance they must complete an initial, state approved, 8-hour Long-Term Care Training course. Producers must then complete a state approved 4-hour ongoing training requirement every 2 years thereafter.

β€’ ANNUITY SUITABILITY TRAINING – Rhode Island licensed producers must complete a 4-hour Annuity Best Interest course approved for 4 hours before selling or soliciting any annuity products. The ExamFX Annuity Suitability Best Interest Standard Training course satisfies this requirement.

β€’ FLOOD INSURANCE TRAINING – Rhode Island licensed producers who sell National Flood Insurance Policies are required to take a one-time 3-hour course on Flood Insurance.

Course Presentation

β€’ PROGRESSIVE – Must progress through the curriculum topic by topic and m must access all reading content and attempt all Study by Topic quizzes.

β€’ CERTIFICATE EXAM – Required to pass the certificate exam with a 70% or better.

β€’ STUDY BY TOPIC QUIZZES – ExamFX requires that all Study by Topic quizzes be passed with at least a score of 70%.

β€’ ATTESTATION – The attestation must be completed following the certificate exam.

Certificates of Completion

Your certificate of completion will be processed within two (2) business days and can be downloaded/printed from the "View Certificate(s)" link in the course launch portal. Completions are normally reported to the state within two (2) business days of the certificate having been issued. There is a state charge of $1.00 per credit hour in order to report completions. This fee will be charged prior to accessing the certification exam.

Non-Resident Producers

Producers who have satisfied the continuing education requirements of their home state will be considered in compliance. Nonresidents must complete the same training for LTC and Annuities as residents if they have not done so in their home state.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from Rhode Island CE requirements:

β€’ Residents holding licenses for which a licensing exam is not required
β€’ Adjusters and appraisers
β€’ Non-resident licensees who have met the CE requirements of their home state
β€’ Individuals who are at least 55 years old at the time of renewal and have been licensed continuously for 25 years without lapse
β€’ Individuals who are at least 60 years old by July 3, 2004 and have been licensed continuously for at least 20 years without lapse at the time of renewal
