Required Hours

• Producers and Adjusters are required to take 24 hours of CE including 3 hours of Ethics every 2 years.

• Combination Multi-Peril Crop Adjuster and Life and Health OR Property and Casualty must take 48 hours including 4 hours of Ethics every 2-year license term.

Licensees must renew on or before the last day of the licensee’s birth month every 2 years based on an odd/even birth year. Licensees cannot take a course more than once within 2 calendar years from the original course completion date.  

Not more than 12 CE credits may be carried over as general credits to the next licensing term. Excess Ethics hours will be counted as general credit.

NOTE: Be sure to complete all of your CE credit hours BEFORE submitting your license renewal application.

Category Restrictions

Licensees may take an approved course in any line of authority to obtain their CE credits, but it is recommended that they take courses pertaining to their license type.

Special Training

• ANNUITY BEST INTEREST TRAINING – Tennessee licensed producers must complete a one-time state approved 4-hour Annuity Suitability Best Interest course before selling, soliciting or negotiating any annuity products.

• LONG-TERM CARE PARTNERSHIP TRAINING 
 Before a producer can sell or solicit Long-Term Care Insurance, they must complete a state approved 8-hour course in Long-Term Care Training. Producers must then complete a 4-hour ongoing training requirement every 24 months following the initial completion of the 8-hour training.

• FLOOD INSURANCE TRAINING 
Tennessee licensed producers who sell National Flood Insurance Policies are required to take a one-time 3-hour course on Flood Insurance.

Course Presentation

• CERTIFICATE EXAM – Licensees are required to pass the certificate exam with a 70% or better.

• STUDY BY TOPIC QUIZZES – ExamFX recommends that all Study by Topic Quizzes are passed with a 70% or better.

• ATTESTATION – The attestation must be completed following the certificate exam.

Certificates of Completion

Your certificate of completion will be processed within two (2) business days and can be downloaded/printed from the "View Certificate(s)" link in the course launch portal. Completions are normally reported to the state entities within two (2) business days of the certificate having been issued. There is a state charge of $1.00 per credit hour to report your completion. This fee will be charged prior to accessing the certificate exam.

Non-Resident Producers

A non-resident producer’s satisfaction of their home state’s CE requirements will satisfy this state’s CE requirements, if the non-resident producer’s home state recognizes Tennessee’s CE requirements on the same basis.

CE Exemptions

The following are exempt from Tennessee CE requirements:

• Limited Lines producers.

Public adjuster licensed less than 1 full year. 

• Producers who have been continuously licensed since January 1, 1994 (are still required to complete the initial 8-hour LTC training but are exempt from the 4-hour ongoing training).

License Renewal

Once the course requirements are met ExamFX will report course completions and you may file a renewal application, pay all fees and follow the online renewal process at NIPR or Sircon.
