How do I get my license?

Step 1: Complete a prelicensing course that has been approved by the Department of Insurance. Once you have completed your course, ExamFX will issue a certificate of completion, which you may download and print from your online ExamFX account. 

Step 2: Complete the Electronic Resident Licensing Application at NIPR and the Criminal Background Check. Application fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

Step 3: Receive the Authorization to Test Confirmation via email from PSI. The Authorization to Test Confirmation is a separate document from the Certificate of Completion and must be obtained from PSI. Please allow four business days for PSI to process your Registration. After four business days, you may go online or call PSI to schedule the examination.

Step 4: Schedule your exam with PSI. Your exam may be taken at a physical PSI examination center or via a remote online proctored exam. You can register online by accessing PSI’s registration website 24 hours a day. For phone registration, you will need a valid credit card and can call PSI at (855) 518-7458.

Security measures are taken for all testing methods. Restrictions on what you may bring with you to the testing center, into the testing room, and what you may wear will be enforced. To change or cancel your testing appointment, you must contact PSI at least 48 hours in advance or forfeit the examination fee.

Step 5: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you two valid forms of government issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.) One form must contain your name and photograph, and the second form must be signature-bearing. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met.

Step 6: Apply for your license with NIPR. Detailed licensing information can be found through the Arkansas Department of Insurance.

Step 7: Maintain your license by being aware of your continuing education requirements. Most insurance licenses must be maintained by completing a certain number of credit hours of continuing education each licensing period.
