REQUIRED HOURS

• Producers in Connecticut are required to take 24 hours of Continuing Education, 3 of those hours being in Laws/Regulations/Ethics, every 2-year license term.

• Life Settlement Brokers are required to complete 15 hours of CE every 2 years by March 31st. Resident producers how hold a life license are exempt from the 15-hour requirement.

The producer will be required to renew their license by the last day of their birth month every 2 years. A maximum of 24 hours can be carried forward and excess LRE credits will count as general credits. Courses may not be repeated during the same renewal period.

CATEGORY RESTRICTIONS

Most licensees may take courses in any line of authority, but it is recommended to take course in the line of authority held. Life Settlement Brokers are required to take approved Life & Health courses.

 

SPECIAL TRAINING

• LONG-TERM CARE PARTNERSHIP TRAINING - Producers must complete a one-time Long-Term Care Partnership (LTCP) Certificate training prior to selling, soliciting or negotiating LTCP products/policies. This training course is good for 10 CE credits. To find out more about this course please visit Connecticut's webpage.

• ANNUITY BEST INTEREST TRAINING – Connecticut licensed producers must complete a state approved 4-hour Annuity Suitability Best Interest course before selling, soliciting or negotiating any annuity products. The ExamFX Annuity Suitability Best Interest Standard course satisfies this requirement.

 

COURSE PRESENTATION

• CERTIFICATE EXAM – Licensees are required to pass the certificate exam with a 70% or greater. The exam must be monitored by a disinterested third party (a person with no family or financial relationship).

• STUDY BY TOPIC QUIZZES – ExamFX recommends that all Study by Topic Quizzes are passed with a 70% or better.

 

CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION AND REPORTING

Your certificate of completion will be processed within two (2) business days and can be downloaded/printed from the "View Certificate(s)" link in the course launch portal. Completions are normally reported to the state within two (2) business days of the certificate having been issued. The state charges $1.50 per credit hour in order to report completions. This fee is charged prior to accessing the certificate exam.

 

NON-RESIDENT PRODUCERS

Non-residents are exempt from Connecticut’s CE requirement. The satisfaction of the producer’s home state CE requirement will be deemed to satisfy the training requirements of this state, if the other state's requirements are substantially similar to those contained in the Regulation.

The Connecticut Long-Term Care Partnership Certification training is required for both resident and non-resident producers who wish to market Partnership-approved policies.

 

CE EXEMPTIONS

The following are exempt from Connecticut CE requirements:

• Individuals licensed for credit or travel accident/baggage or surety bail bond insurance

• Non-residents

• Adjusters

ADDITIONAL LICENSE RENEWAL INFORMATION

Resident producers must renew their license online at NIPR and follow the online renewal process. After successful renewal the licensing record will be updated on the Connecticut DOI's website, and you may print or download your license.
