North Carolina Drops Prelicensing Education Requirement - Impact on learners studying for license

Effective October 1, 2025, Prelicensing Education will no longer be required in North Carolina. That means that the following requirements are being removed:

  • Minimum number of hours spent in the course
  • Maximum number of hours of study per day
  • Passing chapter quizzes in sequence
  • Passing a proctored Certificate Exam
  • Presenting a Certificate of Completion at the testing center for your state licensing exam

Learners may continue studying in their course: there are no changes to the course content, and any information presented may be testable on the state exam. You will need to pass a chapter quiz for each chapter prior to moving to the next. While the Certificate Exam is still available in your course, you are not required to take it.

If you are planning to take your state exam BEFORE October 1, 2025, you are required to complete your prelicensing education as outlined in the “Certificate Requirements” tab in your course.
