Wyoming Insurance Prelicensing Information

📅 Updated April 25, 2025

Requirements Overview

Wyoming does not require licensing candidates to complete prelicensing education; however, ExamFX highly recommends that you complete an educational course before attempting to take your state’s licensing exam.

How do I get my license?

Step 1: (optional) Complete an optional prelicensing course that helps prepare you to take and pass your licensing exam.

Step 2: Schedule your exam with your state’s testing provider, Pearson VUE, at least twenty-four (24) hours before your desired examination date. The fastest way to schedule your exam is to do so online at Pearson VUE or call (866) 936-7786. Your exam may be taken at a physical PSI examination center or via a remote online proctored exam.

Step 3: Take and pass your state licensing exam. On the day of your appointment, you must bring with you two valid forms of government issued identification (driver’s license, passport, military I.D., etc.) one of which must contain your name and a photograph. You will not be able to take your exam if these requirements are not met.

NOTE: Candidates taking a remotely proctored exam must select to end both the exam portion and survey portion of the test in order to receive your on-screen results and emailed score report. See Step 3 above for requirements needed.

When you complete your exam a score report will be provided marked “pass” or “fail.” If you pass you will receive more information on how to apply for your license at that time. Note: If part of a combination exam is failed the entire combination exam must be taken again and at least a 70% must be achieved on the entire combination examination in order to be licensed in that line of authority.

Step 4: Apply for your license online with NIPR and complete other licensing requirements such as fingerprinting. Upon receipt of your licensing application and fees, the Department will send a fingerprint packet the address specified. Applicants must make arrangements with their local law enforcement to obtain fingerprints. There may be a fee charged by law enforcement. Further directions regarding fingerprinting and background check information will be found in the packet delivered by the Department.

Step 5: Maintain your license by being aware of your continuing education requirements. Most insurance licenses must be maintained by completing a certain number of credit hours of continuing education each licensing period. ExamFX offers CE courses that will help you comply with your state’s requirements. Click here to view your state’s education rules and stay on top of your license.

Exam Information

Your exam experience is dependent on the line of authority you are testing for, but all licensing exams will be multiple choice and take place on a computer. Review the exam summaries below. The exam content outlines can be found on the testing provider's website.

The breakdown of testing topics can be found here.

  1. The number of questions on your exam
  2. The time limit
  3. The score that you must achieve to pass the exam

The practice tests and the state exam will be broken into two sections: General Knowledge and State Law. You are required to obtain a passing score in each of the two sections of the exam. There is no chapter on Wyoming statutes and regulations pertinent to Property only on the exam content outline.
