Ohio Insurance Prelicensing Requirements

OHIO INSURANCE PRELICENSING INFORMATION

Ohio requires potential agents take and complete a state approved prelicensing course before taking their licensing exam.

HOW DO I COMPLETE MY EXAMFX PRELICENSING EDUCATION COURSE?

To earn your certificate of completion you must:

  • Return the completed Registration Form to ExamFX. Details on how to complete this part of the process will be located within the Important Documents section of your online course.
  • Complete all Study by Topic reading chapters and Study by Topic quizzes. Study by Topic quizzes must be passed with a score of 70% or better.
  • After completing the Study by Topic reading and quizzes, you must complete and pass the Certificate Exam with a score of 70% or better with a proctor/disinterested third party present. The disinterested third party chosen by the licensee to monitor your simulated exam must have no financial interest in the success or failure of a licensee maintaining an insurance license and must not be a minor, relative, supervisor, or an employee under your line of supervision.
  • Upon completion of the Certificate Exam, you must print the Affidavit form presented at the end of the exam. Both the customer and the proctor must sign and date the Affidavit form and return it to ExamFX immediately. Details on this process may be found in the Important Documents section of your online course.

At the end of your exam, you will receive a printed score report marked “pass” or “fail.”

Step 4: Complete an electronic criminal background check using National WebCheck. You may set an appointment online. More information about fingerprinting and background information visit the Background Check page on the Ohio Department of Insurance’s website.

I FAILED MY EXAM. NOW WHAT?

We are sorry to hear that you have failed your first attempt at passing your state’s licensing exam. These licensing exams are difficult and some candidates must try again to reach their goal. We want to help you get there, so we recommend that you:

Step 1: Be aware of retake limitations and rules in your state. In Ohio, there is no limit to the number of times a candidate may retake an examination if necessary to pass. However, for the examinations that require a pre-licensing course certificate, the certificate must be valid (certificates are valid for 180 calendar days beginning on the date of issuance).

Step 2: Reschedule your exam through the initial registration process.

Step 3: ExamFX’s subject matter experts are available by email at instructor.support@examfx.com to help you pass your licensing exam on your next attempt. Many testing providers will supply you with a score report or performance summary after your testing appointment. Use this report to let the ExamFX subject matter experts know what areas of the exam that you are struggling the most with.

Step 4: Study your materials. ExamFX materials are created by analyzing the exact testing outline supplied by your testing provider or Department of Insurance. This means that all the information that you need to pass your exam is within your course. Be confident that with more studying, you can pass your licensing exam and achieve your goals!
